Theo Thomson
Theo Thomson is a Malawian singer, songwriter, dancer, vocal producer and entrepreneur. He is the owner of Matalala Records whose lead act is hip-hop group, Team Gypsy. Last year, he released his debut album titled Gypsy in Malawi, performed at the Brick and Lace concert, and had his video for Stutter (featuring Yesaya and Wizaymes of Team Gypsy) peak at number 3 on the O-Edition Chart of Africa’s Channel O.
Theo has been coined ‘the face of urban music’ and taken Malawi by storm. He reaches out to audiences of diverse ages and backgrounds with his music, locally and internationally. Theo has had the opportunity to collaborate with numerous Malawian artists, even being fortunate enough to work alongside UK urban pioneer Sway as a result of his performance at Lake of Stars 2009. With a win for best R&B act at this year’s Malawi Music Awards, beating off fierce competition from Lulu and Maskal, Theo has Malawi’s R&B scene in the palm of his hand.
