Renowned poet, critic and thinker, Alfred Msadala is president of the Malawi PEN Association, which runs projects with schools and communities to promote prose and literacy. He believes that “writers in oppressive regimes will always find an alternative voice, and in doing so they become more creative.” His poetry readings are both thoughtful and rousing.

Lloyd Phaundi, aka folk musician Agorosso, is a man who understands more than anyone that the role of the musician is to speak for the people. A self-taught musician (he taught himself to play guitar with a small metallic pot with nylon strings he made himself), his lyrics draw heavily on daily life in his community, and on what he sees, what he hears, and what he feels. An invigorating acoustic performer who understands the importance of music to the people of Malawi.
